Tract Ministry
What is a tract ministry? At Make It Clear Ministries, we believe that tracts are a very important ministry tool. We believe that "passing out tracts" or "dropping tracts" should not be a substitute for witnessing, but that it still a very important part of sharing the Gospel in the 21st Century.
A tract ministry is one of the best ways to lead other people to find Jesus Christ as their savior. A gospel tract is a pamphlet or leaflet with a short, simple presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is probably the easiest and most convenient way to share the good news of Jesus Christ with other people. Whether you are a people person or not. Since it is printed, the tract can be taken home, re-read and studied at the persons convenience. Tracts provide an easy way to "break the ice" or "open the door" to witness. Especially if you have one of the illusion tracts or something else that will get their attention. There is no certain amount of time required to have a tract ministry. Just whenever the opportunity arises while you are living your everyday life. Many people have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior by reading tracts that they have received.
Tips for having a Tract Ministry
- Make sure that the tract you are passing out is scripturally sound. It won't do any good to pass out a tract if it has works in its gospel or if the tract is hard to understand.
- Pray before you pass out tracts. Pray that God will bless your efforts and that He will prepare the hearts of the people that are receiving the tracts. There is no substitute for prayer.
- Read each tract that you plan to give away and know it well enough to answer any questions that the reader might have.
- Tracts can be passed out by anyone, regardless of age, sex, race, or education. I first started passing out gospel tracts when I was about ten years old. I lived next to a retired pastor that believed in passing out tracts and he gave me many to pass out. My two sons were passing out tracts before they were ten.
- Tracts can be left anywhere or shared with anyone. You can leave them at Shopping malls, in a doctors waiting room, and just about any place you can imagine. Place tracts on benches or other places that people are likely to sit for a while. Leave tracts in places like bus stations, airports, subways, or any other places that people will spend a great deal of time. (Many people will pick up a tract and read literature that they find if they are bored)
Take plenty of tracts with you to amusement parks. Theme Parks/Amusement Parks are an open mission field. And the neat thing about places like this is you can sometimes get a glimpse of someone discovering one of your tracts if you place them in line as you are walking. (Simply set a tract on an object that is high enough for people to see, but low enough for you to place it without being noticed... I have watched many people pick up tracts behind me in these lines.)
- Remember that when you are passing out tracts to people, you are representing God to the lost. Make sure to be pleasant and polite. You don't want to offend a person and have them reject Jesus Christ because of something you have said or done to them. A genuine smile is a necessity. It can create an opening for giving out a tract. With love in your heart and a smile on your face, ask kindly, "May I leave you something to read when you get a chance" If a person refuses it, remain pleasant. There are many people who are interested in God and spiritual things out there.
- Use the appropriate tract for the occasion. Always have a variety of tracts with you and be prepared to use them. There are tracts that are written to be given away for just about any occasion that you want. There are Christmas tracts, Halloween tracts, New Year tracts, tracts that just give a good gospel that you can use any time of the year, Thank you tracts which are good for tips or to give to someone that has helped you out in a bad situation, tracts that are used to get a persons attention and then give them the gospel, and many other tracts.
- Look for opportunities to use tracts to share the gospel with others. Take advantage of every situation that comes along. Try to think of new ways that you can give someone a tract. 50 years ago, you could walk up to any person on the street and start a conversation without anyone thinking twice about it. Today, it is much more difficult for many different reasons, but most people will still let you give them something to read if you ask them nicely.
- If you have a chance to, talk to the people who receive the tracts. You may be a person that likes to talk to people. If so, see if you can talk to them about God. If you are not a talker, don't worry about it. Give them the tract and pray that God uses it for His glory. Tracts eliminate the problem of forgetting what to say to the person.
Give tracts away to friends or coworkers. In this case, it would be good to "follow up" or ask them what they thought of the tract. This may give you an opportunity to present the Gospel to them or give you a chance to explain things if they did not understand the tract.
- Keep giving out tracts and don't get discouraged. With a tract ministry you may never know how many people have been influenced to accept Christ as their savior. Leave it in Gods hands. All we can do is to sow the seeds. The rest is in Gods hands, not yours.
- Tracts are inexpensive. Tracts can be handed out plentifully and persistently. "He who soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully." 2 Corinthians 9:6.
- Think of every tract as a seed containing God's word to help every person in the world become a Christian. Who knows, you may lead the next Billy Graham or D.L. Moody to the Lord.
- Remember that tracts can be passed along from one person to another after they have read it, and can therefore be used over and over again.
- Leave your tip inside of a tract when you go out to eat. (Please make sure it is a decent tip. If you give someone a poor tip, they are probably not going to read the tract)
- If you are "dropping" a dollar bill tract, don't stand too close to it. Make sure to get far enough away that people will not ask you if the money is yours. (Or in the case of Brother Hugh, come chasing you down the hallway of your hotel yelling... "Sir, You Dropped Your Money!"... This story had a happy ending as the man loved the tract and wanted some to give away as well)
Make it Clear Ministries is no longer using money tracts as part of our ministry. This is due to people using our $10 tract to give to waiters and not giving them a tip. This is known as stiffing the waitress and will not do anything except turn people against God.
- Teach others to pass out tracts. This way you can multiply the amount of tracts that are being given out for people to read.
There is a movement out there these days where they are quoting a Bible verse that states "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). These people are now saying that the Bible teaches that you must hear the Word of God in order to get saved. If you don't hear the word of God you can't get saved from your sins so gospel tracts are worthless pieces of paper. If you follow their logic you will come to the conclusion that you can not get saved from reading the Bible because you are reading it and not hearing it. I am guessing that also following this logic, a person could read the tract or the Bible to you and you could get saved but not if you read it. Don't let Satan keep you from passing out gospel tracts because someone takes a verse and tries to make a complete doctrine out of it. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that God's word will not return to Him void. It doesn't matter whether if it is written or spoken. Remember that His word is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Pray over your tracts and trust that God will get these into the hands of people searching for the truth.
One of their arguments against tracts is that tracts were not around in Jesus time. They say "If tracts are so great, then why don't you read about Jesus using them?" They also say that tracts are not mentioned in the Bible. My response to that is that Jesus didn't use TV or the radio or the Internet. They are not mentioned in the Bible either. Does this mean that God can't use any of these tools to win the lost? NO! As new things come along and as we get more technology we have new ways to share the gospel. Believe me, Satan and his followers will use everything they can find to get their message across. Why shouldn't God's people?
You can look up testimonies of people that have gotten saved from reading a gospel tract. One of the great missionaries of all time, Hudson Taylor became a Christian by reading a gospel tract. Also George Whitefield, the great preacher of the Great Awakening, was saved by reading a Gospel tract. After reading the tract he wrote, "God showed me I must be born-again or be damned."
Remember that tracts, unlike people don't care what a person looks like, how nice they are or what they have done. You may see a person who you don't feel comfortable talking to because they are rough looking or have a rough personality. You may be able to hand them a tract or put the tract where they will find it. Pray about it and then let God take care of it from there.
Tracts are very powerful tools that Satan hates. Don't let him discourage you from using tracts or convince you that God can't use them. God can take any efforts that we use and plant a seed in the heart of the unsaved with it. The apostle Paul said "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.(1 Corinthians 3:16)." Many people have been saved after many years of prayer and efforts of Christians. If they read a tract, a seed has been planted or watered. If this seed gets enough water eventually it will spring to life and take root in this persons life.
SOME TRACTS YOU CAN USE
Below are tracts that Make it Clear Ministries has to offer to help people with tract ministries. At this time we offer these tracts at 10 cents each with a minimum order of 30. You don't have to order all the same tracts. You can mix them up for the order. This includes shipping and handling. Most Bible book stores charge at least 20 cents or more for the tracts that they sell. We are not making any money on the sale of these tracts. We pretty much break even for the cost of the tracts when we ship them. We don't want to get rich selling tracts. We just want to get them out there for people to use to spread the gospel of Christ to others. This does help us to be able to recover some of the cost of the tracts so that we can print more tracts and write new tracts to spread the gospel. If God puts it on your heart to add a donation with your order, please feel free to do so. All of our tracts have a place on the back of them for churches, organizations, or people to put contact information on it.
