Quotes for Living a Christian Life.

This page is dedicated to Rev. Earl H. Merritt. He has always been one of the wisest men that I have ever known. He is probrably the most responsible for me being in the ministry and I can not tell you how much influence that this man has had on my life and that of my family. I hope that you like these quotes. You can learn from some, and some are meant to be humerous. You may love some and hate others, but I believe they are all good. There should be something here for everyone. - Brother Hugh

A note to English majors. Most of these are direct quotes from the source so they may not have correct grammer. There are times when a speaker will say something to get their point accross which may not be the way they were taught in school. Sometimes a person will have an accent and may say something which is perfectly correct where they live. Please try to enjoy the quotes and get the message out of them that the speaker intended. - Brother Hugh

Advice

There is no human problem which could not be solved if people would simply do as I advise. - Gore Vidal

If you want to get rid of somebody just tell'em something for their own good. - Frank McKinney (Kin) Hubbard

Learn to take advice. There are only two kinds of advice. The kind you need and the kind you don't need.

It is so hard these days for people to obey God because we have now had several generations that have been told that they can do things their own way and don't have to listen to what others tell them.

Bible

This book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the travelers map, the pilgrims staff, the pilots compass, the soldiers sword, and the Christians character. Here paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object, our good is its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is given you in life and will be opened in the judgement and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents. - Author Unknown

We should know the word because someday we will be judged by it.

The Bible is not a textbook but a handbook

The Bible is a treasure chest, but not many people dig down deep into it to get the real treasures.

A well-used Bible that is falling apart usally belongs to a person who isn't.

Do you love your Bible or what's in it?

The attitude of the preacher may change, the attitude of the listner may change, and the circumstances may change, but the word of God will never change.

Most Christians read just enough of the Bible to make themselves miserible.

More than a dead letter.
The Bible is like a telescope. If a man looks through his telescope, then he sees worlds beyond; but if he looks at his telescope, then he does not see anything but that. The Bible is a thing to be looked through, to see that which is beyond; but most people only look at it; and so they see only a dead letter. - Phillip Brooks

I thorrougly believe in a university education for both men and women; but I believe a knowledge of the Bible without a college course is more valuable than a college course without the Bible. - William Lyon Phelps

THE ANVIL
Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door, and heard the anvil ring the vesper chime; Then looking in, I saw upon the floor old hammers, worn with beating years of time. "How many anvils have you had" I said "To wear and batter all these hammers so?"
"Just one" said he, and then with twinkling eye, "The anvil wears the hammers out, you know." And so, thought I, The anvil of Gods Word. For ages skeptic blows have beat upon; Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard, The anvil is unharmed...the hammers gone.

Character

If you don't want to know what I really think, then don't ask me. - Hugh Troyer

Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip. - Will Rogers

It is not what he has, nor even what he does, which directly expresses the worth of a man, but what he is. - Henri Frederic Amiel

The measure of a mans real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out. - Thomas MacAulay

Good habits are not made on birthdays, nor Christian character at the new year. The workshop of character is everyday life. The uneventful and commonplace hour is where the batle is lost or won. - Maltbie D. Babcock

As the tree falls, so shall it lie. - Rev Clayton Baker

REPUTATION AND CHARACTER
The circumstances amid which you live determine your reputation; the truth you believe determines your character.
Reputation is what you are supposed to be; charaacter is what you are.
Reputation is the photograph; character is the face.
Reputation comes over one from without; character grows up from within.
Reputation is what you have when you come to a new comunity; character is what you have when you go away.
Your reputation is learned in an hour; your character is built in a lifetime.
Reputation grows like a mushroom; character grows like the oak.
A single newspaper report gives you your reputation, a life of toil gives you your character.
Reputation makes you rich or makes you poor; character makes you happy or makes you miserable.
Reputation is what men say about you on your tombstone; character is what the angels say about you before the throne of God. - William Hersey Davis

Character is what you are in the dark. - D.L. Moody

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better. I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep. I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in, I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.
When you want to see a movie and your little brother wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him. I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely. On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks from school so you won't be seen with someone as uncool as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one. I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books. When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head. I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole. I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle. May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays. I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you-tough times and disappointment, hard times and happiness. To me, its the only way to appreciate life. - Paul Harvey

We think of God as being in church but when we get out of church we think we have freedom to do as we please. When no one is around to see, we feel we have even more freedom. - Rev. Anis Shorrosh

We need to be the same in the hotel room as we are in the pulpit because God is everywhere. - Rev. Rick Scarborough

Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting. - Elizabeth Bibesco

Christian attitude

Gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. - William Arthur Ward

I have discovered that if you accept some people as they are and love them they think you are a good person. However if you also accept someone else that they hate then you become lower than dirt and they need to find some way to punish you. I have even found this trait in people that claim to be Christians. Remember that you are no better than the person that you have a problem with. You are not perfect nor are you any more righteous than the other person no matter what you may think. God says to hate others is wrong no matter what you may believe they have done to you or someone else. - Hugh Troyer

It is well, when one is judging a friend, to remember that he is judging you with the same godlike and superior impartiality. - Arnold Bennett

Can't we, when we are working and drop something, instead of getting mad about it, say thank you God for giving me the strength to pick this up. - Rev Earl H. Merritt

Finish each day and be done with it...You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it well and serenly. - Emerson

Justifying a fault doubles it. - French Proverb

Always put off until tomorrow what you shouldn't do at all. - Morris Mandel

If it wasn't for the optimist, the pessimist would never know how happy he wasn't. - Anonymous

If Christians and churches cared more about letting God use your talents where you are needed rather what you can get out of the service, we would see a great revival in this nation and in the world. You have some people that say I don't go to church because I don't get anything out of the service. We don't go to church for a blessing, or to learn or to have fellowship with other Christians. We go to church to worship God. If your heart is right with God you will get the blessing, you will learn and you will have fellowship with Christians who have also come. Hugh Troyer

Life is an attitude. Live today as if it is the last day of your life.

All that is essential for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmond Burke

You should remember that though another may have more money, beauty, and brains than you, yet when it comes to the rarer spiritual values such as charity, self-sacrifice, honor, nobility of heart, you have an equal chance with everyone to be the most beloved and honored of all people. - Archibald Rutledge

I do not ask to walk smooth paths,
Nor bear an easy load.
I pray for strength and fortitude,
To climb the rock-strewn road.
Give me such courage I can scale
The hardest peaks alone.
And transform every stumbling block,
Into a Stepping Stone.
Gail Brook Burket

A Pessimist is someone who, when he sees the light at the end of the tunnel, thinks that it's a train comming to run him over.

WHAT DISTURBED YOU MOST IN 2012?
What disturbed you the most? A lost soul in Hell, or a scratch on that car. Your missing the worship service or missing a days work. The church not growing very fast or the garden not growing. Your Bible unopened, or a newspaper unread. The contributions decreasing or your income decreasing. Your children late to Bible study or late to public school. Your church work neglected or your housework neglected. To miss Bible class or to miss your favorite TV program. Low attendance at worship or low attendance at a party. Now how about 2013?

Be not angry that you can not make others as you wish them to be, since you can not make yourself as you wish to be. - Thomas A. Kempis

How much discouragement can you take for God. What would it take for you to quit your service to the Lord. - Dr. Clyde Billingsly

Think about God as an invisible person walking by your side at all times. - Rev. Anis Shorrosh

If ALL of your physical possessions were taken from you today, what would you have left? What your are greatly depends on what you have left. - Hugh Troyer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...Courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. - Kristone

Church

The difference between listening to a radio sermon and going to church...is almost like the difference between calling your girl on the phone and spending an evening with her. - D.L. Moody

If you don't support and invite others to come to your church, you may not have a church to attend. - Hugh Troyer

The highest bill in the church should be the water bill because we are leading so many people to Christ that we have to continually refill the baptistry. - Rev. Jerry Haley

You decide Saturday night what you will do Sunday morning. - Rev. Fred North

A Christian without a church home is like a fish out of water

Going to church won't make you a Christian any more that going to a garage will make you a mechanic.

Some people go to church because they think they are better than others and some go because they think that they are worse than others. Why do you go to church?

Our lives are like great power lines. No matter how taught they are stretched, if there is not a standard to lift them up at intervals, those power lines will finally lie in the dust of the ground. - Rev. W. A. Criswell

HOW TO KILL YOUR CHURCH

  1. Don't come.
  2. If you do come, come late.
  3. When you come, come with a grouch.
  4. At every service ask yourself,"What do I get out of this?"
  5. Visit other churches about half of the time to show your pastor that you are not tied down to him. There is nothing like independence.
  6. Let the Pastor earn his money; let him do all the work.
  7. Sit pretty well back and never sing. If you have to sing, sing out of tune and behind everybody else.
  8. Never pay in advance, especially for religion. Wait until you get your money's worth, and then wait a bit longer.
  9. Never encourage the preacher; if you like a sermon, keep mum about it. Many a preacher has been ruined by flattery. Don't let his blood be on your head.
  10. It is good to tell your preacher's failings to any stranger that may happen in; they might be a long time finding them out.
  11. Of course, you can't be expected to get new members for the church with such a Pastor as he is.
  12. If there happens to be a few zealous workers in the church, make a tremendous protest against the church's being run by a clique.
  13. If your church unfortunately happens to be harmonious, call it apathy or indefference or lack of zeal, or anything under the sun except what it is.
THE CHURCH I KNOW
If this is not a place where tears are understood,
Where do I go to cry?
If this is not a place where my questions can be asked,
Where do I seek?
If this is not a place where my spirit can take wing,
Where do I go to fly?
If this is not a place where my feelings can be heard,
Where do I go to speak?
If this is not a place where you'll accept me as I am,
Where do I go to be?
If this is not a place where I can learn and grow,
Where can I be just me?
That's the church I know.

Joining the church will not save but the saved will join the church. - Rev. Rick Scarbough

Consequences

Choosing isn't the hardest part; It's learning to live with the choices you made that makes it so hard.

God gave you a free will so you can do whatever you want to, even if He doesn't like it. However along with this free will He will also give you enough rope to hang yourself. Along with freewill come responsibility and consequenses. - Hugh Troyer

Anne Morrow Lindbergh

To give up is the worse disgrace, even though to lose is sometimes inevitable.

Unless you begin something, no matter what it is, you will never complete it.

No man really becomes a fool until he stops asking questions. - Charles P. Steinmetz

An educated man is not one who knows all of the answers, but one who has learned how to ask the right questions to find the right answers.

There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts. - Charles Dickens

The more education a man has, the more assurance he has that he does not have the answers.

He that teaches himself hath a fool for a master. - Benjamin Franklin

Evangelism

Too many Christians are no longer fishers of men but keepers of the aquarium. - Paul Harvey

We may change the way and medium which we share the gospel with the world but we must never change the gospel. The gospel through the power if God is what saves us. When a person changes the gospel so as not to offend someone or to make it more socially acceptable we loose the power of God and the saving ability of the gospel. Look for new ways to share the gospel with the world but never compromise the gospel or your Christian testimony. - Hugh Troyer

Evolution

The evolutionists seem to know everything about the missing link except the fact that it is missing. - Gilbert Keith Chesterton

I fully agree with your comments on the lack of direct illustration of evolutionary transitions in my book (Evolution). If I knew of any, fossil or living, I would have certainly have included them... Yet Gould and the American Museum people are hard to contradict when they say there are no transitional fossils... I will lay it on the line - there is not one such fossil for which one could make a watertight argument. - Dr. Collin Patterson

Some scientists have calculated the odds that DNA could form by chance at roughly 10 to the 40,000 power to 1. That's, a one with 40,000 zeros behind it! Scientists consider anything 10 to the 50th power or above impossible. - Patrick Marks

The occurrence of any event where the chances are beyond one in ten followed by 50 zeros is an event which we can state with certainty will never happen, no matter how much time is allotted and no matter how many conceivable opportunities could exist for the event to take place. - Emile Borel

Experience

Christians need to realize that God's Word has many black and white areas in life but it also has grey areas. There are things to ignore, there are things to argue about, things to fight for and things to die for. People make mistakes when they don't know which is which. You can get into a lot of trouble in this life if you fight for something you should only argue about. You can also get into trouble if you only argue about things you need to fight or die for. Read God's word and pray that you will know which is which. Remember also that what you do affects the lives of others around you. What you do or don't do may cause another person to be influenced to do the right or wrong thing. - Hugh Troyer

It takes much cleverness to know how to conceal cleverness. - Francois de LaRochefoucauld

A good scare is worth more to a man than good advice. - Edgar Watson Howe

The resistance of a woman is not always a proof of her virtue more frequently of her experience. - Ninon de Lenclos

Many times when I have something really important that I can't afford to loose, I put it in a "safe" place. Although I may never find it, I know that I will never loose it either. - Hugh Troyer

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that was in it--and stop there, lest we be like the cat that sits on a hot stove lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove lid again, and that is well, but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore. - Mark Twain

One thing about the school of experience is that it will repeat the lesson if you flunk the first time.

Often when you reach the grass you thought was greener on the other side, you find not only is it not any greener but often it's not even eatable.

Everybody has been young before, but not everybody has been old before. - Africn Proverb

Pray about things. Remember that what you do today will determine what happens in your life tomorrow. We learn from our mistakes or we keep repeating them. Some times the right thing is really hard to do. Don't base your decisions on what is the easy thing to do right now. A few years from now you will be looking back on this time in your life. Will you be happy with the decisions you make now or will you be wishing you made different choices. - Hugh Troyer

Happiness

Just because I can't sing does not mean I won't sing.

Everyone wants happiness. No one wants pain. But you can't have a rainbow without a little rain.

Unhappiness is in not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it. - Don Herold

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are we able to go on a nice vacation, or when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges.
What makes us so bitter against people who outwit us is that they think themselves cleverer than we are. - Francios de LaRochefoucauld

It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with...and remember that time waits for no one.
So, stop waiting....
--until your car or home is paid off
--until you get a new car or home
--until your kids leave the house
--until you go back to school
--until you finish school
--until you lose 10 lb.
--until you gain 10 lb.
--until you get married
--until you get a divorce
--until you have kids
--until you retire
--until summer
--until spring
--until winter
--until fall
--until you die
There is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a Journey, not a destination. So -- work like you don't need money, Love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watching.

The happiness of a person is directly linked to the most important thing in his life.

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open.

It isn't what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about. - Dale Carnegie

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. - Abraham Lincon

Very often a change of self is needed more than a change of scene. - A.C. Benson

Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. - James Matthew Barrie

Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow is only a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore to this day. - From the Sanskrit

Be a life long or short, its completeness depends on what it was lived for. - David Starr Jordan

If one only wished to be happy, this could be easily accomplished; but we wish to be happier than other people, and this is always difficult, for we believe others to be happier than they are. - Montesquiev

I accept life unconditionally. Life holds so much-
So much to be so happy about always. Most people ask for happiness on condition. Happiness can be felt only if you don't set conditions. - Artur Rubinstein

Hell

It would be a terrible thing to devote your life to Christianity and God only to die and find out that there was no God. Of course you would never know it because you would simply cease to exist. (But you did help to make other lives better by your acts of kindness). But it would be far worse to live your life as an athiest fighting against God, telling people that He doesn't exist only to find out that you were wrong and there really is a God. Not only that, but to realize that you convinced your relatives and best friends that you were right so that they also rejected God, and also went to Hell. That has to be the most tragic thing that could ever happen to a person. - Hugh Troyer

God doesn't send anyone to Hell, you send yourself

Many people who plan to repent at the 11th hour die at 10:30.

It would be far better to go to Hell from the Jungles of the Amazon where they never had a missionary than from the front seat of a Bible believing church. - Pastor Harold Ramsey

A Naval chaplin who didn't believe in Hell was asked to resign. When he asked why the Christians told him there were two reasons. If there is a Hell, we don't want you lying to us, second if there is no Hell, we don't need you.

Holidays

I believe that we take these holidays and use them as a tool to share the gospel with others. Many people only show up for church on Mothers Day, Easter and Christmas. Do we stop celebrating these holidays or do we use them as ways to win people to Christ. You can take an upcoming holiday and use it as an opening to give them the gospel, invite them to church or to give them a gospel tract. I have written several gospel tracts including ones for Halloween, Christmas and Easter. Many Christians say to lock up your doors and turn out the lights so the children don't come all dressed up to your house asking for candy. I say, why not take this opportunity to give the children a gospel tract along with the candy. My Easter tract asks the question "How does Jesus dying over 2,000 years ago affect your life today?" It isn't the history of the holiday that concerns me but what we as Christians do with the holidays. Either God will come out on top at the end of each holiday each year or Satan will. What will make the difference is what Christians choose to do with them. Anything can be used as a soul winning opportunity if we set our minds to it.

True love is like a ghost: everybody talks about it but few have seen it. - Francois de LaRochefoucauld

Perhaps determination not to give up trusts many marriages through to survival. Determination could be just another name for stubbornness or for dependence. I think it could also be another name for commitment, even for love. It surely is acknowledgement that "for better or worse" includes worse, something the old marriage has learned it must abide. Without that worse, the marriage, like the phrase, is incomplete. I suspect it is also considerably less interesting. - Joyce Colony

A wedding is an event, but a marriage is an achievement. - In Tune with Father(Soumi College)

So you say you can't take it, the price is too high. The feelings are gone it seems the rivers run dry. You never imagined it could turn out so rough. You give and give and give and still it's never enough. Your emotions have vanished that once held a thrill, you wonder if love could be alive in you still. But that ring on your finger was put there to stay, you'll never forget the words you promised that day. Jesus didn't die for you because it was fun, He hung there for love because it had to be done, and inspite of the anguish his word was fulfilled, cause love is not a feeling it's an act of your will. - Don Francisco

Politics

This is in response to remarks about people arguing about politics.

In this life there are some things you need to overlook, some things you need to fight for and some things you need to stand up for so much that you are willing to die for them. Some things you need to overlook might be what color to paint the sactuary of the church or the length of a persons hair. Something to fight for would be slaughter of the unborn and killing off the elderly and anyone else that may seem to be unproductive to society. The fight for catagory is the area that many people think you should be willing to die for. Things to die for are things like the Diety of Christ, the gospel ( because without a good gospel you will go to Hell) and freedom of religion (Not freedom from religion). In politics we have all 3 catagories to deal with. You will have to decide for yourself how things line up. What's important to me, you may not think is worth even bringing up. I do try to live peacably with all men if possible while not compromising my values and beliefs in the process.

Rules for a better life

Bill Gates recently gave a Commencement speech at a High School about 14 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2: The world doesn't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
Rule No. 12: Smoking does not make you look cool. It makes you look moronic. Next time you're out cruising, watch an 11-year-old with a butt in his mouth. That's what you look like to anyone over 20. Ditto for "expressing yourself" with purple hair and/or pierced body parts.
Rule No. 13: You are not immortal. (See Rule No. 12.) If you are under the impression that living fast, dying young and leaving a beautiful corpse is romantic, you obviously haven't seen one of your peers at room temperature lately.
Rule No. 14: Enjoy this while you can. Sure parents are a pain, school's a bother, and life is depressing. But someday you'll realize how wonderful it was to be a kid. Maybe you should start now. You're welcome.

I resolve to speak ill of no man whatever, not even in a matter of truth; but rather by some means excuse the faults I hear charged upon others, and upon proper occasions speak all the good I know of everybody. ~Benjamin Franklin

Salvation

Going to church won't make you a Christian any more than going to a garage will make you a mechanic.

Have you ever wondered why you never go to a funeral without people saying or implying that ..."They went to Heaven"... or... "They're in a better place!"... It seems that EVERYONE wants, or expects, to go Heaven when they die, but a great many folks have little to do with the things of God and/or the local church while they are alive! They come up with their own "excuses" why they don't want to talk about Jesus Christ in order to justify their avoidance of Him. Scripture teaches that "broad is the way that leads to destruction and MANY are they who enter therein...and narrow is the way that leads to life and FEW there be who find it!" According to Scripture, most people DO NOT go to Heaven when they die...but enter into Hell instead! They like to hear the word "Heaven" but hate to hear the politically incorrect word "Hell". It makes them cringe inside. Humans will always worship something, even if it's not God. Those who reject Him may not realize it, but they set themselves up as their own god. They live to please and satisfy themselves. Even the good things they do, they do to make themselves feel better about their decision to live independently from God. You invite them to church and they will always find an excuse not to come. You seek to tell them how they can KNOW FOR SURE they will go to Heaven some day, and they don't want to discuss it! They want to go to Heaven some day, but they DO NOT WANT TO STOP BEING GOD themselves!!! God says in Scripture: "Men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil." It's easier for them to curse, tell off-color jokes, and live sensually than it is to live for and love our Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died as our ultimate and only true sacrifice for our sins. We are guilty before a holy and righteous God and are condemned to Hell. Jesus Christ, however, offering His own blood, took your Hell upon Himself. You and I are guilty, but he paid the fine! Your sentence was carried out on Him!! Then He arose from the dead three days later victorious over your sins!! You CANNOT go to Heaven without surrendering to Jesus Christ, trusting in Him as your only "ticket" to Heaven! But that will NEVER happen as long as you demand to remain as your own god!!! DO NOT KID YOURSELF!!! WITHOUT JESUS CHRIST, YOUR ETERNITY WILL BE IN A PLACE CALLED HELL!!! And... there are no second chances once you're there!! It will be TOO LATE FOR YOU!!! - Pastor Jim Vail

Just as there is a right way and a wrong way to build a bridge, there is a right way and a wrong way to get to Heaven.

Sin

Sin is the cancer in our churches. It starts as undectable and slowly grows. After a while you have a lump that is dectable and can still be removed without doing damage to the whole body. If it is not taken care of at that time it will get into the lymph nodes and spread throughout the body. At this point the body needs chemo or radiation. The longer you wait to go see the doctor the more extreme measures that need to be done to rid the body of the disease. If not taken care of, a body with cancer will die. The church today needs to turn to the great physician. Sin will not go away on its own. - Hugh Troyer

Tracts

Nothing surpasses a tract for sowing the seed of the Good News. - Billy Graham (once said of Gospel Tracts)

There is a movement out there these days where they are quoting a Bible verse that states "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). These people are now saying that the Bible teaches that you must hear the Word of God in order to get saved. If you don't hear the word of God you can't get saved from your sins so gospel tracts are worthless pieces of paper. If you follow their logic you will come to the conclusion that you can not get saved from reading the Bible because you are reading it and not hearing it. I am guessing that also following this logic, a person could read the tract or the Bible to you and you could get saved but not if you read it. Don't let Satan keep you from passing out gospel tracts because someone takes a verse and tries to make a complete doctrine out of it. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that God's word will not return to Him void. It doesn't matter whether it is written or spoken.
